What's Open, Closed This Labor Day?

It's Labor Day, but not everyone has the privilege of taking the day off, which means there are some places around town and throughout the region that will be open for business.

More than 100 years ago the first Labor Day was observed. With a nod to the contributions of the American workforce, we continue this tradition started in the labor movement by taking a day off.

Accordingly, that means many offices charged with conducting business during regular business hours will be closed for the day. There are, however, more than a fair share of workers who will clock in, providing customers with many of the goods that contribute to making Labor Day a relaxing, and fun occasion.

Here's a look at what's closed today:

  • All federal and state offices
  • All Windsor municipal offices
  • All Windsor public schools
  • U.S. financial markets
  • Banks and credit unions
  • All postal offices
  • Commuter trains such as Metro North and Shore Line East will run on a holiday/weekend schedule Monday
  • The DMV until Tuesday
  • Connecticut Lottery Headquarters in Rocky Hill

Here's what's open:

  • Retail Stores
  • Supermarkets
  • Restaurants
  • Convenience stores
  • Bars/Taverns
  • Liquor Stores
  • Call ahead before heading to any of the above establishments to confirm they are open. Many retail stores may be operating on a Sunday schedule or with limited hours.
