Union Street Prepares for 6th Annual Tavern Trot

The annual race raises funds for Alex's Lemonade Stand.

Since its inception six years ago, Union Street Tavern's Tavern Trot has raised tens of thousands of dollars for Alex's Lemonade Stand.

It was an easy decision to kick off the first event, according to Mike Deneen, owner of the Tavern, who describes it as his favorite day of the year.

"Everyone pitches in," Deneen said, explaining that water, food and funds are all provided by local companies and the Tavern's major suppliers in an effort to raise awareness and fight childhood cancer.

This year, the race itself is taking a step up in its prestige. The 3.5 mile road and trail race through Loomis Chaffee and Windsor Center (Click here to view a map of the course) is a USATF-certified course and serves as a qualifier for the Manchester Road Race.

To assist runners with accurate times, the race will utilize donated sensors that will mark the runners' precise time of crossing the finishe line.
