Things Are Getting Back To Normal At Bradley International Airport

Airlines started flying in and out of Bradley a day after canceling flights ahead of Hurricane Irene.

Travel is gradually getting back to normal at Monday,  a day after airlines canceled flights in anticipation of Hurricane Irene.

There were some cancellations early Monday because the airlines didn’t have planes at Bradley, John Wallace, Bradley airport spokesman, said. The first arrival touched down at about 8:30 a.m. and the first plane departed around 9 a.m., Wallace said.

As of this morning, New England’s second largest airport is about at 70 percent of its normal activity, Wallace said.  Flight operations should be back to normal by Tuesday, he said.

“It’s going to take a day or so to get back up to normal,” Wallace said. “The whole system is having to catch up.”

Despite all of the cancellations Sunday, Bradley was not closed and even saw some cargo planes in and out during the night. The airport was available to military activity as well as emergencies and diversions, of which there were none, Wallace said.
