Santa Makes Visit to Wilson Fire Department

Kids saw the "big man" and received gifts too.

Kids from all over Windsor arrived in anticipation of seeing the "guy in red" Saturday morning. The Wilson Fire Department is Santa's local stopping point on his travels each year and his arrival draws many Windsor kids for a brief conversation, a photo and even a brand new present from Kris Kringle's elves.

The elves, who are really Doctor George Curry and his daughter Jackie and others, greeted the children and pass out the gifts which have been collected for several weeks through the Toys for Tots program and from local Wilson businesses.

"The toy donations were from local Wilson merchants," said Dr. Curry. "But, of course they were made up in Santa's workshop."

"It grows every year," said Curry about the program which started at Wilson Library 15 years ago.  One year when the library was undergoing some renovations, the Wilson Fire Department offered their location and Santa has met with his fans there ever since.

Of course, Santa arrives in style. No, not on his sleigh with the reindeer. "He arrives in the fire truck," said Curry. "The weather was great today so he came right on time from Bradley Airport."
