Dozens of Windsor residents gathered Friday night on the town green to hold a candlelight vigil for the victims and family of vicims of Newtown's Sand Hook Elementary School shooting.

The gathering was led by First Church's Pastor Rick Huleatt, who encouraged residents to keep Newtown families in their hearts and prayers.

It was apparent no pocket of Windsor was untouched by the news of Friday's tragedy, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including 20 children. Parents, children in tow, attended. As did firefighters, local police, Windsor Volunteer Ambulance workers, board of education members and Mayor Don Trinks.

Trinks said he, like every parent, is greatly affected by the shooting, saying he feels angry, saddened, frustrated and shocked by the loss of so many lives, especially young, innocent lives — children, who, he noted, "were only worried about being good for Santa" before Christmas.

Upon hearing about Windsor Police and Windsor Public Schools' plans to review and discuss plans for additionaly safety at district schools, Trinks said he thinks it's always a good idea to review safety and ensure a safe environment for the town's children, adding that it's a difficult situation to address given that you want to provide safety without making the schools look like prisons.

Trinks also said the turnout at Friday's vigil reminded him of how much love he has for Windsor and its residents, noting the amount of support Windsor families were willing to show on such short notice and likening it to the vigil held at the town portico following the events of September 11.
