Probate Judge Brian Griffin died at his home on Monday, The Hartford Courant reported.
Griffin, a lawyer and former mayor of Windsor, was 57.
He was a committed public servant to his native Windsor, having been elected to serve as the probate of the newly-expanded Greater Windsor Probate Court in November 2010, but having a hand in community efforts for decades.
Griffin was a graduate of Windsor High School, a founding member of the Windsor Police Athletic League, a member of Windsor's Town Council for nearly a decade and a member of the Capital Region Council of Governments' board of directors.
