Poquonock Development Gets OK With Split Vote

The planning and zoning commission voted 3-2 to approve a proposal for a 300-unit residential development off of Poquonock Avenue.

Just as residents were split over the proposal to construct a 300-unit residential development off of Poquonock Avenue, planning and zoning commission members were at odds this week. Those in favor of the project, however, outnumbered the opposition, approving the proposal that some say will have an adverse effect on the community.

Planned residential units include apartments, townhouses and single-family homes. The project also calls for the development of business space.

In addition to the eight apartment buildings, the proposal includes plans for six-unit townhouse buildings (each with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths) and a variety of single family homes constructed in 14 different styles.

The project was approved and its construction is dependent upon several conditions, including a restriction on the ratio of single-family to multi-family homes.

Per conditions set by the commission, at least four single-family homes must be constructed for every one multi-family building.
