Geminid Meteor Shower Peaks Overnight Thursday, December 13

The last meteor shower of the year, the Greminid meteor shower, is set to light up the sky with shooting stars Thursday night into early Friday morning from December 13 to December 14.

The Greminid meteor shower, the final meteor shower of the year, is scheduled to light up the sky Thursday night into Friday morning.

Staying up to see the show is always a challenge, but provided the night sky is clear, star watchers may get a glimpse of shooting stars as early as 9 or 10 p.m. Thursday.

The peak of the meteor shower, however, should occur betwen 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14.

What to bring: You can comfortably watch meteors from many places, assuming you have a dark sky: your backyard or deck, the hood of your car, the side of a road. Consider a blanket or reclining lawn chair, a Thermos with a hot drink, binoculars for gazing along the pathway of the Milky Way. Be sure to dress warmly enough.
