Happy Good-News Friday, Windsor!
If you're unaware of what the Harlem Shake is, it's the latest dance craze to take the Internet by storm. Now, this YouTube monster has swept through Windsor.
Sweet Spot Bake Shop on Tunxis Avenue recently filmed and released its own version of the Harlem Shake for your viewing pleasure.
The Town of Windsor is also shaking things up.
Windsor Social Services and the Windsor Hunger Action Team have partnered up to make sure fewer kids are going home hungry and that the homes they return to after school are a bit safer.
The groups' "Weekend Wheels" program, currently serving youth at Clover Street and John F. Kennedy Schools, sends local children in need home from school with backpacks full of nutritious food each Friday.
The kids then return the backpack on Monday and then get a full pack again on Friday.
The Windsor Volunteer Fire Department and the Windsor Fire Marshal's office have joined the cause as well. They're putting free smoke alarms in each backpack.
"Smoke alarms detect and alert people to fire in its early stages, giving people the time needed to escape to safety," Windsor Fire Inspector Lauri Volkert said.
