December 3, 2011: Learn about Victorian Quilts, Make a natural wreath, Adopt a dog

Learn about crazy quilts and consider adopting a dog from a shelter.

1. Today, Dec. 2, is National Mutt Day. Animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige created the day of recognition in 2005. According to the official Web site, today is all about “embracing, saving and celebrating mixed-breed dogs.”

National Mutt Day was created to raise awareness of the plight of mixed-breed dogs in shelters around the nation and to educate the public about the sea of mixed-breed dogs that desperately need new homes. There are millions of loving and healthy dogs sitting in shelters.
