'Dear Abby' Columnist, Phillips, Dies at 94

Advice columnist Phillips, who wrote under the nom de plume Abigail Van Buren, passed after battling Alzheimer's disease.

Pauline Friedman Phillips, author of the nationally-syndicated advice column "Dear Abbey," died Wednesday following "a long battle with Alzheimer's," The Huffington Post reported, citing Universal Uclick publicist Gene Willis.

Born in Soux City, Iowa in 1918, Phillips' column began in the mid-50's and was an immediate success, becoming nationally syndicated from the start.

The column was printed in over 1,000 newspapers, including publication in countries as far as Thailand, The Huffington Post reports.
