CT K-9 Olympics Slated for Saturday

Teams will be testing their skills in various exercises.

The is hosting the 20th Annual Connecticut K-9 Olympics this weekend.

The all-day event begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, and is free and open to the public.

The competition involves 35 K-9 units from local police departments, CT State Police and the Department of Corrections.

Awards will be given out to the top teams in the following categories:

  • Obedience
  • Criminal Apprehension
  • Top Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd
  • Most Experienced Handler
  • Most Experienced K-9

The State Police B.A.T. (Breath Analysis Testing) vehicle, Department of Corrections CERT team, narcotic and bomb detection dogs will also be on hand at the event.

All donations and proceeds raised from the sales of T-shirts and food will go to the Hometown Foundation, "CHIPS" Program and Shriners Hospitals for Children Burn Centers.

Directions: Take Route 195 south to Route 44 west to the UConn Depot campus (across from the ). Take a left onto Weaver Road.
