Purchase Local Christmas Trees and Make a Far Reaching Difference

Windsor Jaycees and Volunteer Fire Department selling trees this weekend

Imagine if the simple act of purchasing your Christmas tree or wreath could not just put money in the pockets of local sellers, but it could benefit many different local Windsor groups.  It can if you stop by Ocean State Job Lot Plaza and purchase a tree from the Windsor Jaycees.

The Jaycees have been selling trees in Windsor for over 30 years.

"We usually sell out a few days before Dec. 24," said Jaycee, John Jary, who went on to explain that the proceeds gathered over the next three weekends will go to support the many community programs that the Jaycees run.  In fact, all proceeds from Jaycees tree sales stay right here in Windsor.

This year, the Jaycees also have three special groups of volunteers coming to staff the sales on the weekends.  St. Gabriel's Youth Group, Team Paragon and WHS's Project Graduation will be on-site selling for the next three Saturdays.  "The kids come out and are responsible for their own sales," said Jary.

"You get to support who you want to," said Jary.

Dec. 3 proceeds will go to St. Gabriel Youth Group, Team Paragon on Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 they will go to WHS's Project Graduation. Five dollars from each sale will go to the groups on their respective sale day.

The Jaycees proceeds will also go towards local scholarships, the Sheila Schmidt Fishing Derby, flower delivery to Windsor Rehabilitation on Valentine's Day and other local efforts. "Everything stays in town," said Jary.

The Jaycees will be selling fresh Balsam Fir trees at four different price points between $25 and $50 and will go on sale this evening, Friday, December 3 at 5 p.m. The hours are: Tuesday- Friday from 5:00pm - 8:30pm, Saturday from 10:00am - 9:00pm, Sunday from 12:00pm - 5:00pm.

Also selling trees and wreaths this season is the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department at 340 Bloomfield Avenue.

They will be selling freshly cut trees Monday through Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Delivery is available.
