Back to School Begins Now in Windsor
Parents and guardians of Windsor public school students are being urged to register now for the 2012-13 school year, which is rife with changes.
The first day of school in Windsor isn't until August 28, but Windsor Public School officials are urging parents to get ready now.
Registration for Windsor Public Schools' 2012-13 academic year is now open, and parents of school-aged children are encouraged to register their child early (registration for Sage Park is preferred before August 9), particularly leading up to a school year with so many changes.
This fall will mark the beginning of full-day kindergarten in town, an initiative many administrators and town officials have lobbied for, for over a decade.

Along with full-day classes for the youngest public school students comes a complete reconfiguration of the town's public elementary school system.
Gone are the days in which each elementary school will serve students in grades 1-5, creating primary and intermediate schools to get the job done.

As provided by Windsor Public Schools, changes to the structure of elementary education in town are as follows:
- Oliver Ellsworth Primary School – Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 2 (students will move onto Kennedy);
- Poquonock Primary School – Kindergarten thru Grade 2 (students will move onto Clover);
- Clover Street Intermediate School – Grades 3 through Grade 5;
- John F. Kennedy Intermediate School – Grades 3 through Grade 5;
- Sage Park Middle School – remains Grades 6-8; and
- Windsor High School – remains Grades 9-12.
Roger Wolcott Early Childhood Center has been closed — a decision school administrators say will save the district over $300,000 in the next year.
Registration for all Windsor Public Schools is located in L.P. Wilson's board of education offices.
Registration is open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Monday through Thursday until August 2 (the office will be closed from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.).
The office will also be open during the same hours on Fridays starting August 6.
