VOICES HEARD AND A BOE VOTE EER STUDY AT WHS

On October 19th, 2012 the Hartford Courant published an article on Dr. Marlon James, an Assistant Professor at Loyola University.  Dr. James believes the way to bridge the achievement gap in Windsor is by making the teachers and administrators face their biases.  James’s theory is that most teachers have an implicit bias that leads them to expect less from minority students.

Dr. James has not provided any documented studies that he has conducted related to his biases theory.  The Windsor Board of Education from the beginning did not provide anyone clear information related to Dr. James’s theory.  The EER Study was carelessly rushed through by the Windsor Board of Education.  There was little time for educators and community members’ voices to be heard.

Concerned Mothers and Fathers propose the following:

Prior to the next Referendum, the Windsor Board of Education schedule a Special Meeting to afford educators and community members an opportunity to speak to Dr. Marlon James theory, beliefs and the EER Study at Windsor High School. The Windsor Board of Education should be prepared to take action with a vote on the EER Study at Windsor High School at this special meeting.
