Save Our Students’ Education Programs

The Windsor Board of Education must cut $600,000 from their 2013-14 school budget. The Windsor Board of Education this past Tuesday, 5/21/13, began discussions on suggested programs, services, and staff that could be cut.   While no proposals were formally made, the following students’ education programs were discussed for possible cuts:   Possible Cuts Impacting Students’ Education Programs

  • Gifted and talented programs
  • Pay-for-play sports
  • Cuts to enrichment programs like art and music
  • Foreign language in the elementary schools (FLES)
  • Reducing after-school busing
  • Elimination of teachers and increasing class sizes
  • Administrative staff
  • All-day Kindergarten
Over the last year, the district has implemented or proposed the following new initiatives and programs:   Recent and Proposed Initiatives and Programs
  • Technology Director
  • Community Liaison
  • New website
  • Outside consultants for goal setting and implementation
  • Outside consultants for BoE self-evaluation, mission statement and values
  • One-to-one computer pilot for grade 6
  • Alternative education program at Roger Wolcott
  • Three-year Excellent and Equity Review
Concerned Mothers and Fathers support budgets that want to keep students’ education programs that impact students.  We strongly encourage The Board of Education to eliminate Recent and Proposed Initiatives to meet the $600,000 budget cut.

We look forward to your comments and suggestions.
Thank you. Concerned Mothers and Fathers
