Questions of BOE Chair's Actions

Questions of BOE Chair’s Actions

On September 4, 2013, the Windsor Board of Education Chair attended the Connecticut State Board of Education Meeting.  Chairperson Doreen Richardson addressed and shared information with the Connecticut State Board of Education Members related to the Excellence and Equity Study – The Impact of Racial Inopportunity on Student Development and Achievement at Windsor High School conducted by Assistant Professor Marlon James.

Concerned Mothers and Fathers are perplexed and have several questions.

1.      Is this normal procedure for the Chair of a Board of Education to forward a study to the Secretary of the State Board and debrief on Board action with the Connecticut State Board of Education Members?

2.      To provide such a presentation, shouldn’t this be the responsibility of our esteemed professionals, the Superintendent and/or Staff per direction of the Windsor Board of Education?

3.      Were the Superintendent, Staff, and/or Windsor Board of Education Members even notified that there would be a presentation?

4.      Did the Chairperson’s presentation have any input from the Superintendent, Staff, and/or Windsor Board of Education Members?

5.      The opening response included, “I’m Doreen Richardson, Chair of the Windsor Board of Education.”  The Chair did not state who she was representing. Was she representing the Board or herself?

As always, Concerned Mothers and Fathers look forward to your thoughts and reflections.
