MISSING INFORMATION FROM $120,000 EER STUDY

It has come to the attention of Concerned Mothers and Fathers that the next Windsor Board of Education Regular Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 17th at the Town Hall at 7:00 PM to discuss Excellence and Equity Review-Next Steps.  The Board is also considering holding a Workshop on Thursday, September 26th at LP Wilson at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM to discuss the CMT Results and the District Improvement Plan.  There will also be discussion from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in detail of the Dr. Marlon James report-Excellence and Equity: The Impact of Racial Inopportunity on Student Development and Achievement at Windsor High School.

This report can be obtained from the BOE Superintendent’s Office at (860) 687-2000 EXT. 236 or online at http://www.windsorct.org .  Concerned Mothers and Fathers would like to encourage ongoing questioning and discussion related to this report.

1.       Participants - The researcher listed the Participants of the Study to include Students, Teachers, Parents, Community Leaders, Board, District, School and Department Leaders (pg. 6 of study).  Why were only students’ statements included in the study? Why was there no information from the other participants?

2.       Questions - When will we receive the list of questions and follow-up questions asked of the students and other participants?  When will we receive the recordings and a copy of the actual transcriptions of the students’ discussions? When will we receive the recordings and a copy of the actual transcriptions of the other participants’ discussions?

3.       Demographic Information – When will we receive the demographic information of the students who participated in the group discussions?  When will we receive the demographic information of other participants who participated in the study?

4.       Research Question – The research question that guided this study was “How does teaching and learning in a learning environment organized around tracking impact the academic, social, and emotional development of students; and the behaviors of educators?”  (p. 12 of study).  Should our elected officials expect a study that provides information that will raise student achievement for every student?

5.       Financial Obligation – Have we withheld payment to the researcher due to the lack of information we have received?

As always, Concerned Mothers and Fathers look forward to your thoughts and comments.
