Windsor Federal High School Branch is Open for Business

The Windsor High School branch opened on Sept. 12.

As of September 12, the newest Windsor Federal Savings branch is open of business. Located in Windsor High School, town officials and bank administrators attended an official ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony.

The branch is described by Windsor Federal Savings as a "student-assisted banking operation," and is open to Windsor High students faculty and staff Monday through Friday during lunch periods.

"This is a great teaching tool for our kids.” said Dr. Ernest Perlini, interim Superintendent of Windsor Public Schools. “For many kids, it used to be that they wouldn’t even think about banking, or a checking account, until they were college age. Now to be able to consider it at 14 or 15 years old – I think that’s great.”

Members of Windsor High teacher Gloria Wellington's accounting class, each of whom received training via a summer program conducted by Windsor Federal Savings, will have the opportunity to assist in the branch's daily operations.

“This [branch opening] is a great opportunity for students to actually implement and apply what they learn. Plus, Windsor Federal has always been a great partner for us,” said Town Manager Peter Souza at the branch's opening.

The opportunity for students to learn about the industry is a high priority for the school district and Windsor Federal Savings.

"The benefits it will bring to Windsor High students will be tremendous, and we’re quite grateful to the administration and faculty, as well as our Windsor Federal team, for working so hard to make it happen," said Windsor Federal Saving President Mark Griffin at the time of the announcement of the branch.

“It’s so critical for our students to understand the value of saving, and that it’s not just going to the ATM and taking out money,” said Roben Sorensen, Assistant Superintendent of Windsor Public Schools.
