What Business Should Go Here?

The shop has been empty since the Whistle Stop moved to it's bigger space down the road.

The success of its breakfast menu enabled the Whistle Stop to move down the road, occupying a large space to accommodate its growing customer base.

The restaurant's move has also left an open store front on Broad Street. It's a spot with limited parking, but a great deal of walking traffic, particularly in the warmer months. And given plans to develop town center, it could be the perfect spot for Windsor's next mom and pop or even a chain.

So what do you think should go here? Should someone come in to renovate and turn the place into a pub in the heart of town? Would it make a good Starbucks?

Tell us in the comments.

I'm still looking for a comfy coffee shop in the center of town. I'm not sure if the town is ready for a Starbucks, but an It's a Grind or something similar would be nice. Somewhere you could meet a business associate with Wi-Fi and comfortable high back chairs. A comfy place to meet a friend, knit and have a latte. Someplace that is open until 9:00 or 9:30pm.

if you're looking for a coffee shop, come to get baked! and though we don't have evening hours yet - we plan on extending our hours as soon as we can. we have wifi, a comfy place to hang out, good coffee and goodies all baked fresh on site daily.
emily woodward March 02, 2012 at 11:48 PM
come visit me at Get Baked! though we aren't open late (yet) we are extending our hours as soon as i can get someone to cover the afternoon / evenings (i get to work between 2 and 3 am to bake everything - so i physically can't stay open much later than i already am). We will be open this coming Tuesday the 6th until 8pm or so while the auction goes on in our building!

Kristin, Have you visited Get Baked at 25 Central Street. I believe it has everything you are looking for.

We do not need a fast food chain in the center... We are supposed to be promoting a healthy lifestyle for the success and wellbeing of our children. What about a teen center? It's. Close to the middleschool and high school, while also public enough to avoid the mischief that can arise in more isolation! Let's get our youth on a track for the future!
WindsorRocks March 03, 2012 at 01:58 PM
Is get baked nicer than the Windsor donut shop? That place is filthy dirty and disgusting.
Jennifer Coe March 03, 2012 at 02:12 PM
No chain stores! It is kind of small for a youth center, the Premiere Pets space may be better for that. Maybe a family run sub shop?
Carol March 03, 2012 at 02:49 PM
Just on the outskirts of the center, How about Bart's and the Beanery. Barts offers the Fast food and the Beanery offers 33 Flavors of coffee, Baked goods and Deli Sandwiches, Homemade soups, Salads, Vegetarian Meals and much more. Shared dinning room with comfy chairs next to a toasty Fire place. Free Wi-Fi. Fresh Ground, Fresh Brewed Coffee and a Fresh Baked Cookie, Scone, Brownie! Springtime hours soon, open till 8:00 p.m. Great Parking! Spring, Summer and Fall Seating over looking the River.
Teacher Mom March 03, 2012 at 03:57 PM
I agree with Carol! We have Bart's and the Beanery and now Get Baked for great coffee and baked goods. How about a Book Store (new and gently used) and Gift shop, with WIFI?
Jan Porri March 03, 2012 at 05:53 PM
That space is way to small for an kind of 'teen center' something like that would be great over near CBT.
Jan Porri March 03, 2012 at 05:55 PM
Lots of awesome ideas....the bottom line is to get the residents to support whatever goes in, and to come to the center. We did have a nice bookstore at one time, a lovely bath shop, a woman's consignment shop, candy...where are they now?? I can't support them all!! : )
Teacher Mom March 03, 2012 at 06:08 PM
Agreed Jan! I guess they had at least two supporters :)
Jen w March 03, 2012 at 06:35 PM
A burrito place would be great with Loomis so close. Or a Rita's.
Carol March 04, 2012 at 03:33 PM
Jan you have a good point. Supporting Windsor small business is Key! We seem to want to open coffee shops, Nail salons and pizza places! Why? Just puts someone out of business. Windsor goes out of town for their shopping needs! It is sad! Jordan Florist has such a great selection of gift Ideas, We have several places to get coffee and baked goods ( 3 opened in the past 2 months). Plus 3 Grocery stores that sell baked goods.
