Poll: Do Record Black Friday Sales Mean the Economy is Growing?

Retail sales were up 7 percent from last year, according to the Huffington Post.

Retail sales were up 7 percent from one year ago on Black Friday, the Huffington Post reported Saturday.

According to the HuffPo report, comsumer spending increased by nearly $1 billion from 2010, spending that topped $11 billion on Fri., Nov. 25.

The jump in question begs the question of whether or not the large increase in spending is a sign of economic growth.

According to the Huffington Post, shoppers didn't just turnout at stores across they country, they spent a pretty penny on-line as well.

"Online shopping was strong as well, with a 24.3 percent increase in online spending on Black Friday, according to IBM, which tracks sales at 500 online retailers," the Huffington Post reported.
