Hundreds of New Jobs To Move Next Door

Cigna has announced the relocation of its Philadelphia headquarters.

Insurance giant Cigna recently announced its plans to move its Philadelphia headquarters to Bloomfield, bringing 200-800 jobs to the region.

The announcement was made as part of Connecticut's "First Five" legislation passed by the General Assembly, which, according to House democrats, "will provide incentives to the first five businesses that each bring a minimum of 200 new full-time jobs to Connecticut within the next 24 months."

State Representative David Baram (D-Windsor, Bloomfield) joined Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman at Cigna headquarters at the time of the announcement.

"When you add this many new jobs to an area, it will also spur local retail investment, housing, and other business growth,” said Baram, who served as Bloomfield mayor from 1982-89. “I am very proud of the CIGNA – Bloomfield relationship which has flourished for decades as exemplified by their sponsorship of the very popular Sunset Sounds Concert Series, their involvement in the local and Hartford Chambers of Commerce, and participation in town events and projects.”

Baram also added that the move will have a positive impact on the region, particularly Windsor, which is home to a large campus of The Hartford.

CIGNA is also expected to invest $100 million over the coming years in technology and infrastructure improvements as part of the move, House democrats said.

There are currently 3,900 CIGNA employees working in Connecticut.
