Amazon Resumes Bid for Windsor Fulfillment Center

Talk with the online-retail giant picked up again Monday night.

One month after the town's negotiations with Amazon stalled, the online-retail giant has resumed talks with town officials about its plan to make Windsor home to the company's newest fulfillment center.

According to Town Manager Peter Souza, Amazon has submitted "an incentive request."

"The request is essentially a 50-percent reduction in building permit fees and a 5-year, 60-percent abatement on real property taxes," Souza confirmed Wednesday night.

Souza said talks with the company picked up again Monday evening when Amazon representatives notified Mayor Don Trinks that they were submitting the request.

Amazon's request, Souza noted, is lower than the abatement recommendation made by the economic development commission in August. The commission recommended a 50-percent cut in building permit fees and a 70-percent abatement over five years.

The approval of Amazon's request, which depends on a town council vote, represents the final piece of the puzzle in Amazon's pursuit of a Day Hill Road fulfillment center. The company's building proposal was approved by the planning and zoning commission, and the inland, wetlands, and watercourses commission in September.

Plans for Amazon's fulfillment center represent the construction of a 1.5 million-square-foot facility on Day Hill Road.
