Windsor Voters Reject Third Budget Proposal

Windsor is headed for a fourth referendum this budget season after voters rejected the town council's spending plan Tues., June. 25.

Windsor voters rejected the town council's budget proposal for the third time this budget season Tuesday by a 1,533-1,398 vote.

The budget voted on Tuesday represented a 1.8 percent increase in overall spending and an increased tax impact of .54 percent.

Cuts to reduce Town Manager Peter Souza's proposed budgetary tax impact by three percent included a reduction of $400,000 to requested education funding and nearly $1 million in government spending from the general government, general services and health budget lines.

The result was a proposed $100.7 million spending plan.

Tuesday's vote was Windsor's third of the budget season, with two budget proposals being shot down by residents on May 14 and June 4.

Both voter turnout and the vote margin decreased slightly between the May 14 and June 4 referenda.

2,962 voters cast votes on May 14, while 2,747 turned out on June 4.

The trend reversed, however, during Tuesday's referendum, as more than 2,900 Windsor voters filled out a ballot.
