Windsor Voters Reject Budget, Again

Voters in Windsor rejected the town council's proposed budget at referendum for the second time Tuesday.

The budget represented an overall increase of 1.9 percent -- an increase made possible through multiple cuts to the board of education's funding request.

The budget failed by a vote of 1,456 to 1,291.

While Tuesday's vote saw an increase in "yes" votes, the "no" votes decreased by more than 300.

The highest percentage of voter turnout occurred in district 7 at the Rainbow Road Firehouse polling place. Just over 20 percent of registered voters turned out, and voted against the proposed spending plan, 250-118.

This year's budget is the first to have been rejected by voters in Windsor since 2008, when it took three referenda for residents to approve. The budget that year, like this year, went to referendum three times.
