Women Artists' 5th Annual Holiday Show and Sale

'Tis the season for holiday shopping, and if you're not in the market for a run-of-the-mill item to gift this year, the Windsor Art Center may be the perfect place, as for the fifth year, they've rounded up 27 of the finest female artisans in the region to showcase their handywork.

The Women Artists Collective is a group of artists, all from Connecticut who work in a variety of mediums, according to the Art Center. Pieces on display and for sale include jewelry, sculpture, pottery, paintings and more.

The sale will run from Sat., Nov. 19 - January 5. Everything will be 20-percent off on November 19 and 20.

It's the season to "Think art; Buy art," the Art Center Says.

Historical Society Pre-Holiday Auction

Held at Central Street Antiques, the Windsor Historical Society's pre-holiday auction will allow interested parties to place bids on a number of valuable packages, including a week in the Berkshires, a sailing jaunt with lunch on Long Island Sound, a delicious Dutch or Mexican dinner, or a limousine ride to the Altnaveigh Inn in Storrs, with a $200 gift certificate. 

In addition, participants can win a visit from the "Weekly Weeder," who will spend three hours a week making sure your garden is at its best, and a delivery of freshly-baked muffins once a month.

Proceeds from the auction benefit programs run by the Windsor Historical Society.

Tickets are available for $25 at the Historical Society, Ashley's Distinctive Jewelry and Gifts, Bill Selig Jewelers and Jordan Florist. Tickets will also be available on auction night at Central Street Antiques. Bluegrass at Northwest Park

Northwest Park's Coffeehouse Series kicks off this year with a performance from Grass Routes, a five-piece bluegrass band from the area.

The group has been entertaining audiences since 1980, and will kick off a great season of live music at the park, which will include visits from Rani Arbo & Daisy Mahem, Tracy Grammar, The Gugenheim Grotto and Eilen Jewel, among others.

Grass Routes will play Sat., Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $16 and can be purchased through Northwest Park's website using PayPal.

Also This Weekend:

  • Celebrate Native American History Month at the Wilson Branch Library on Sat., Nov., 19 from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
  • The twenty-third annual "Food for Health" Drive will be held on Sat., Nov. 19 to benefit the Windsor Food Bank. In exchange for any non-perishable food item, all services at Curry Chiropractic (15 Central Street) will be free of charge, including spinal examinations, headache evaluation, carpal tunnel screening and x-rays, if necessary.
