Windsor Weekend Guide: Cabin Fever, Black History and More

A look at events in town from Fri., Feb. 3 - Thurs., Feb. 9, 2011.

Cabin Fever Festival; Sat., Feb. 4

The third-annual event at Northwest Park is set to bring loads of family fun. Considering the unseasonably-warm weather lately, residents have likely experienced the least amount of cabin fever in some time, but the park's afternoon of hay rides, games and live music is not to be missed.

The festival will be held foam 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Sat., February 4. Admission costs $3 for Windsor residents, $5 for non-residents.

Underground Railroad Passes Through Historical Society; Sat., Feb. 4

The Windsor Historical Society will host an afternoon of poetry, stories and songs from the Underground Railroad brought by Nzinga's Daughters. The program will convey stories of slavery, resistance movements and the coded messages used within Negro spirituals. Audience participation will be encouraged.

This event costs $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and $4 for members. It will be held from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. For more information, call the Historical Society at 860-688-3813.

International String Trio Play Northwest Park

Featuring a fiddle, guitar and upright bass, this trio of Berklee College of Music grads is set to bring an evening of Gypsy jazz, Apalachian folk, acoustic world music, classical arrangements and popular songs to Northwest Park as a part of the park's Coffeehouse series.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the Northwest Park websit.

Poetry on the Line; Sun., Feb. 5

Poetry is coming back to the Art Center on Sunday. The afternoon will also include a live musical interlude.

This event is free. Tea will be at 3 p.m. Call 860-688-2528 for more information, or visit windsorartcenter.org.
