Windsor Weekend Guide: The Pleasants to Rock Fright House

A look at events in town from Thurs., Nov. 10 - Wed., Nov.16.

Recession Rock Comes to Freight House

The Windsor Art Center at the Freight House will be rocking Thursday night — a slight change from the usual acoustic guitarists and jazz ensembles that pass through town on the venue's First Thursday Music nights. On Thurs., Nov. 10, audience members will have the opportunity to hear music from The Pleasants, a duo made up of Amanda Rogers (keyboard) and Mike Matta (guitar and vocals). While their music comprises a blend of sounds, creating a "unique brand of Recession Rock," it's their lyrics that truly touch the listener, as Visions Magazine puts it, “To completely enjoy all of the lyrical finesse of [Forests And Fields] it is best to lean back, and warm your fur like a [Tiger] in the sun relaxing in the leaves of the trees.”

The show starts at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 10. There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door. For more information, visit www.windsorartcenter.org or call 860-688-2528.

Connecticut and the Civil War

The Windsor public library will host a unique event Thurs., Nov. 10, giving attendees the opportunity to learn about Connecticut's Civil War history from expert Mathew Bartlett, author of The Gettysburg Chronicle. In what began as the drafting of a single book chronicling the Gettysburg campaign, Bartlett has come to write an 18-volume series on the subject. Bartlett will lead a free discussion of Connecticut's role in the Civil War in honor of its 150th anniversary.
