SummerWind Offering New Season of Music Performances

The Windsor concert venue books The Steve Miller Band for Aug. 12; Gregg Allman, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers and Bela Fleck perform on Aug. 26.

A gem in the northern part of Windsor will be opening up for a season of concerts again this summer.

SS&C SummerWind Performing Arts Center is located at 40 Griffin Road North in the Griffin Office Park off Blue Hills Avenue in Windsor. The venue recently announced two shows - The Steve Miller Band on Friday, August 12 and Gregg Allman, Bruce Hornsby and Bela Fleck on August 26.

The big white tent will be the destination for thousands who can buy tickets for reserve seating or general admission on the lawn. The facility is able to accommodate 1,400 people under the tent, and 2,500 more in lawn seating.

SummerWind's tent collapsed during a snow storm in February 2003. The tent had to be removed and the venue was closed until 2010.  A new tent now has taken its place which has a “double curvature” which will not allow snow to build up and shed it to the ground.

Acts the location has hosted in the past include famous names such as Winton Marsalis,  Blood Sweat and Tears, Judy Collins, Roberta Flack, Janice Ian, and the Count Basie Orchestra.
