Selichot Evening & Film: “100 Voices – A Journey Home"

On Saturday, September 24 from 6:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Congregation Beth Ahm will present 100 Voices – A Journey Home". The free movie at the synagogue on 362 Palisado Avenue (Route 159) in Windsor, Conn. will be part of a special Selichot evening that will include a religious service and desserts.

“On the observance of Selichot, which takes place days before Rosh Hashanah*, Jews begin the process of self examination and reflection that continues through the High Holy Days,” explains Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz of Congregation Beth Ahm, one of the only synagogues in Connecticut that offers free High Holy Days tickets to Jews who are not affiliated with any other congregation. “This film offers us the opportunity to discover how the amazing ways that people of all ages can learn about others who are very different and share this knowledge with their community.” The beautiful and haunting Selichot Services will follow the discussion.

“100 Voices – A Journey Home” is a moving musical documentary that celebrates the resilience and the power of Jewish life while telling the story of two peoples who shared intertwined cultures. It explores the history of Jewish culture in Poland that produced one of the most artistic and educated societies that once flourished in Europe.  At the same time, it highlights the current resurgence of the country’s Jewish culture through personal reflections and musical selections of a group of cantors, including renowned U.S. cantors Jack Mendelsohn and Nathan Lam, and composer Charles Fox (“Killing Me Softly”, “I Got A Name”) who made an important historical mission to the birthplace of Cantorial music.
