Crafts, Queen Kick Off Shad Festivities Saturday

May means Shad Derby and things start this weekend with the Lions' Arts and Crafts Fair on the Green and the Shad Coronation Ball.

It's May, and that means one thing in Windsor: Shad Derby! It's the biggest annual celebration in town and, yes, it's only the first week in May, but that doesn't mean it's too early to get the celebration started.

Things kick off this weekend on the Green and at the Marriot with the Windsor Lions Club's annual Arts and Crafts Festival, which will be followed up later Saturday night when one lucky Windsor girl will be selected to be the Derby Queen.

On Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m., Windsor Green will be tuned into a gold mine for arts and crafts enthusiasts. Crafters and artists will travel from throughout the region to put their work on display and up for sale. If you haven't found that perfect Mother's Day gift, this may be the perfect place to find something unique and thoughtful.

Saturday night is black tie night at the Windsor Marriot as the Shad Fest Bureau holds the 45th Annual Shad Derby Coronation Ball. Restaurants and businesses across town have sponsored girls, one of which will be crowned at the $65-a-head event, and appear in the parade later this month.
