Students honored those who have served and their grandparents Friday.

Trinity Christian School in Windsor honored grandparents and veterans on Fri., Nov. 11 by welcoming families into the school for a patriotic, and sometimes emotional, ceremony.

Each age group presented a gift of music from preschool to middle school age students.

The special speaker for the morning event was U.S. Navy Chief Ray Cason who took the opportunity to discuss his personal reasons for joining the military.   He also discussed taking your faith with you everywhere you go, even at the workplace. In his job as medical response personnel, he has assisted many soldiers who are injured and said he attempts to meet both their "emotional and spiritual needs."  "It's an opportunity to minister to those who are seeking hope during difficult times," said Cason.

"We started doing this program years ago," said Cathi Sasportas, Development Director for Trinity Schoo.  "Alot of our grandparents are also veterans.  It was a great way to combine honoring both groups at the same time," said Sasportas.

Lt. Commander John Donzella (Ret.) also spoke.  He spent most of his career on a nuclear powered submarine and spoke poignantly about not communicating with his families for long periods of time. "He reminded us is what men and women sacrifice to protect this country," said Sasportas.  Donzella lives in Windsor.

After the ceremony, grandparents went back to the classroom and had a chance to read stories and do a craft with the students.
