Sins Cast Away in Windsor on Jewish New Year

Members of Windsor's Congregation Beth Ahm stood on the banks of the Farmington River Thursday, the first day of Rosh Hashana year 5774, casting pieces of bread into the water in a ceremony symbolic of the relinquishing of sin, forgiveness for others' transgressions and a request for forgiveness from others.

Rabbi Alan Lefkowitz said Thrusday the day marks a period of self-reflection for the Jewish community, during which the opportunity to consider who one is with respect to who they want to be is at hand.
