With thunder still rumbling through the area, traffic is slowly getting back to normal under the railroad bridge that welcomes all to Windsor along Route 159 in the center of town.
For several moments Friday afternoon as heavy rain blanketed the area, the Amtrak underpass flooded making it near impossible for low-level sedans to make it through the water. Traffic was slightly backed up along Palisado Avenue for about 10 minutes as drivers decided whether it was worth the risk to maneuver their vehicles through the water. A Windsor Police Department patrol cruiser parked on one side of the roadway to monitor the situation.
The National Weather Service is calling for showers and thunderstorms to continue until 1 a.m. before tapering off through late Saturday morning. Some of those storms could be severe, though, with large hail, gusty winds and heavy rain. A flash flood warning has been issued, along with a hazardous weather outlook and severe thunderstorm watch.
