Everyone is Irish on March 17. Where to join in on the festivities.

Patch is running a weekly feature called Patch Picks, highlighting five choice local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, and more, hand-harvested by either us or you, the reader! You’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends, and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girlfriend nights out, kids party places, parks and more.

This week’s theme is good places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this week.

The Union Street Tavern is holding its own St. Patrick's Day Parade, opening the doors at 9 a.m. for a $5 Irish breakfast special, and loading the train into Hartford for the day. The train will head back to the Tavern at 4 p.m., just in time for a night of music from The Whiskey Boys at 5 p.m., followed by a DJ until midnight. There will be drink specials, corned beef and cabbage, and Shepard's pie all day. All proceeds from the breakfast go towards breast cancer research.

The Half Door in Hartford, kegs and eggs will be served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Live Irish music can be enjoyed from open to close.  Shepherd's pie, reuben wraps, and corned beef and cabbage dinners will be available during lunch and dinner hours.  Irish pints will be poured at the indoor and outdoor bars.  You may even see a life-size walking, talking Guinness.
