Couples Express Their Love at Town Hall

Town Hall hosted weddings and vow renewals on Valentine's Day.

50 years ago, former Windsor Town Clerk George Tudan started the tradition of giving a free marriage license to the first couple to show up at Town Hall on Valentine's Day.

His daughter, Betsey, received her free license in 1977 when she married Peter Lepak.

Tuesday, Betsey returned for the tradition's 50th anniversary and renewed her vows with her husband of 35 years.

The Lepaks were one of several couples to return to Town Hall for the celebration, after having received a free license years earlier.

Pat and Mike Kuzik, who received their license in 1966, renewed their vows Tuesday, as well.

Pat now works in the Town Clerk's office.

When the tradition began in 1962, marriage licenses cost $6. They are now $30, and the free licenses are given throughout the day on Valentine's Day.
