Windsor Lions Donations

The Windsor Lions Club recently completed its 2012-2013 year.

During that time the club provided approximately $10,000 worth of free eye exams and eyeglasses for 30 Windsor children and 10 Windsor adults. Over the past eight years the Club has donated $68,000 for eye care to Windsor residents.  The Club also provided hundreds of reading glasses to the veterans at the VA in Rocky Hill.  Regarding other eye care related activities, it also contributed to the Lions International Foundation, to CT Library for the Blind in Rocky Hill, to CT Lions Eye Research at Yale-New Haven Hospital, to the CT Lions Gallery of Vision Services, to VOSH (Voluntary Optometric Services to Humanity) and FIDELCO. Many other donations were made to local community organizations such as Boys and Girls State, Windsor Community Service Council food and fuel banks, Northwest Park, Windsor Independent Living Association, Windsor CARES, Windsor Library Association, Project Graduation, PAL, Mary’s Place, The Soldiers Project, The Union Street Tavern Trot (for childhood cancer research), The Children’s Welfare Fund, Lions Children’s Christmas Party, and four scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

The Windsor Lions raise the funds (nearly $20,000 this past year) they contribute with its Arts and Crafts Festivals in the spring and in the fall, at its food booth and kids’ slide on Shad Derby Day, sales of popcorn at summer concerts on the town green, a pasta dinner held in April with the Windsor Junior Women’s Club, and its Easter plant sale.
