On Thursday night, October 25th the middle school students at St. Gabriel School in Windsor hosted a multicultural event for fellow students, families and friends. In order to promote cultural awareness and understanding, the students in 6th-8th grade chose a country that represents their nationality. After a couple months of researching their heritage, the students produced a research project related to something
During Culture Night, students shared what they learned with numerous cultural exhibits, varied ethnic food offerings and for the first time this year, artistic performances. Guests were provided a passport, designed by the middle school students, which they then had stamped after visiting each country’s table. Offerings this year included pierogies from Poland, Ravioli from Italy, Lo
Mein & dumplings from China, Jamaican beef patties from Jamaica, empanadas from Colombia, and so much more. In addition to offering food, students also decorated their tables with items from their country, including pottery, jewelry, posters and crafts. This year several students performed two German dances, choreographed by an 8th grade student.
In its 4th year, Culture Night attracts about 200 people and has quickly has become a school tradition! The success of the evening is attributed to organizer Rosalia Ruberto, St. Gabriel School’s Spanish and Art teacher, along with the efforts of the students and their supporting parents! The students love this event, and they learn invaluable lessons.
