Individuals who have attended Windsor’s Clover Street School over the past decades are invited to join current students at a special end-of-school celebration on Friday, June 8. The “When One Door Closes, Another Opens” event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the School Auditorium at 57 Clover St. in Windsor. Reservations are requested by calling Jenifer Phelps at Clover Street School at (860) 687-2050, ext. 102.
“We welcome anybody who ever has been part of our Clover Street School family, – student, staff, siblings, parents and grandparents – to join us for this celebration,” explains Michelle Jones, Principal of Clover Street School. “Several surprises are planned, including a special guest and the presentation of a permanent commemorative gift to the school.” Refreshments will be served during the event, adds Jones.
Clover Street School and the Windsor Public Schools’ other elementary schools and Roger Wolcott Early Childhood Center are hosting special celebrations this spring, in anticipation of the town-wide schools reorganization this coming school year. In August, Clover Street School will no longer be an elementary school, and will become Clover Street Intermediate School for Grades 3 through Grade 5.
The Windsor Public Schools’ reorganization is the result of an intensive two-year community-based process that included a series of education and community forums and workshops. As part of the new structure, Kindergarten will become a full-day program for all students with those classes located at Poquonock Primary School and Oliver Ellsworth Primary School, depending upon the child’s home address.
The new structure of the Windsor Public Schools will be:
- Oliver Ellsworth Primary School – Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 2 (students will move onto Kennedy);
- Poquonock Primary School – Kindergarten thru Grade 2 (students will move onto Clover);
- Clover Street Intermediate School – Grades 3 through Grade 5;
- John F. Kennedy Intermediate School – Grades 3 through Grade 5;
- Sage Park Middle School – remains Grades 6-8; and
- Windsor High School – remains Grades 9-12.
For the 2012-2013 year, the Roger Wolcott Early Childhood Center will not be in use as a school.
