What they don't get is that the Dollar Tree and Poquonock development are not isolated issues.…Read More They directly relate to the overall frustration of voters. Residents have repeatedly been told that development will produce "benefits" for them and the town and help keep taxes low. Meanwhile, those "benefits" always seem to go to an ever hungry, yet still failing, education beaurocracy while the center of town and other neighborhoods languish with no improvements and taxes still go up.

What Mayor Trinks and Minority Leader Jepson refuse to acknowledge is that people (ALL people) are…Read More tired. Most Windsor residents whether they are on the right or the left want cost effective responsible government. We want our elected officials to remember that they ARE accountable to the people. It is OUR money hence OUR priorities should set the agenda. No more horse trails or sidewalks to nowhere. This November let’s send a clear message to the Town Council – step aside boys a new team is taking over.

Does any of you have your boss / employer / client PrePay Your Travel Expenses to Commute To Work?…Read More Our Taxes are being increased to Pay for The Travel Expenses of the Chicago Shyster $20k per yr for a total of $60k to do a worthless study after firing teachers & closing a school - Remind your friends & family they still have 2 hours left to Stop the Waste of Money VOTE NO! & keep our taxes from increasing!
Malvi Lennon May 14, 2013 at 10:12 am
Michaela you would be a great asset on the BOE. Have you considered running in November? If you do…Read More not want to run as an R or a D you can run as an independent. I would def vote for you and I know that Bob would do so too.
Avon Lady May 14, 2013 at 05:59 pm
There is still time to Vote NO!!!
STOP the Tax Increase that will pay the Chicago Shyster $327,966…Read More which contains $60k in Travel Expenses - why should our taxes go up so that a personal friend of a school board member can get richer while our students get No Benefit

Not going to lie Kim Jong Un's threats are becoming more intimidating. Does anyone actually think he…Read More will act on his threats? I personally think he is crazy enough to.

Not allowing all FACTS to be made public is an injustice for all citizens.

In my opinion the reason to keep an investigation private is two fold - protects the criminal…Read More prosecution - proetcs the accused because in our contry innocent until proven guilty.
With the Newtown massacre there will not be a criminal prosecution - and the perpetrator killed himself on site. So what is there to protect? So in my oponion photos showing the victims and reports explaining the injury suffred by each victim speficially should remain seal out of respect for the families of the victims.
However all other information should be release. Particularly because the Malloy administration and many legislators want to pass new laws which will impact every single law abiding gun owner in the state. Politcians are hell bent on doing "something", yet whatever it is they "do" is NOT based upon the FACTS -

Sam, you do make a great argument, and you do so in a respectful way.
I do get your point about if…Read More they mean the same, why aren't they called the same.
But the issue, maybe not for you or me, but for others out there, is that cultural differences are difficult, if not impossible to change. Gay couples, unfortunately by many, will never be seen the same as the 'traditional' male-female couple.
I told you that this issue would generate harsh feelings in many, but I also notice that you have debated like a gentleman, and it's been a pleasure to go back and forth with you.
As to making it all 'Civil Unions' I wouldn't have an issue at all, and maybe you just came up with the answer. After all, as you said, love IS love.
Sam, I've truly enjoyed it and please know that I honestly wish you the best, however this all turns out.
Nice to find someone on here that understands sensible debate.
Sam H March 27, 2013 at 09:50 pm
Hunter - I appreciate the inquiry. As it stands now, a "Civil Union" is *not* equal to…Read More marriage. If laws were to stay as they are now except that all same-sex couples were allowed a "Civil Union", there would be a number of disadvantages. Primarily, civil unions are not recognized by the federal government, therefore resulting in unfair tax ramifications, denial of federal benefits , as well as loopholes which allow companies to deny spousal type benefits to gay couples.
Now let's talk if Civil Unions and Marriage became truly equal in the eyes of the law - zero difference except for the name. In this case, the answer is in your question - if they are exactly the same for the name, why not just let same-sex couples get married? Why segregate them to a "civil union"? By using a different term, you relegate them to a socially second-class status.
Another example of this is - what if you came to this country through a legal immigration channel, and worked very hard and finally became a "citizen" - but rather than calling you a citizen, we're going to call you a "naturalized individual of dedication". You can still vote and have all the same rights - but not the name. They can be identical in the eyes of the law, and still have different connotations. They have different meanings, and no matter how equal they are on paper, they will never be the same. The same goes for marriage.
What do you think about just making *all* legal relationships "civil unions"?
Hunter March 27, 2013 at 09:40 pm
Okay, Sam, answer me this, and I'll honestly listen, because you do make certain points.
If a gay…Read More couple is afforded the exact same rights as those granted a man and woman, via a Civil Union, why is it not enough?
I'm being honest here, Sam, and I'm not trying to be disrespectful.

Avon and Everyone, I requeted the Name Plates for TP & ZC be larger as they are not readable…Read More form the in-Chambers audience, nor in the TV or PC viewings. TP&ZC Commissioner O'Brien, at a later meeting agreed with me , as when he was at home, he could not read who the speaker was! Mr.Souza stated that the issue would be first directed to the Town Council, then the TP&ZC signage would follow what was approved/adopted by Town Council. Perhaps a Study will be approved, or a Committee formed to address this ongoing issue. I volunteer to help improve this sign situation, as a concerned Windsor citizen who attends TC and TP&ZC meetings and watches/reviews on my pc. John Dunn, Member Windsor Independent Town Committee.

Like I told Doreen Richardson yesterday the Name Plates are so small & they do not afterwards…Read More add the names of who is talking so most of the men & women at the town hall & BOE meetings are just faces but I do not like how she INCORRECTLY told Mr Panos that His Job was Not To Question but to GO ALONG With What The School Board Wants - The BOE has the job to put forth what is best for Students & Tax Payers NOT TO BENEFIT Their FRIENDS
CatherineDennis May 12, 2013 at 08:56 am
In fact it is very telling to watch TC meetings, if you cannot go, watch them on line. Many of them…Read More talk amongst themselves, laugh, make faces and text while the citizens are speaking. It is so obvious one speaker asked them to turn off their phones and pay attention. They are voting together no matter what you want or say. Some will say they don't think they can go along with it (Republicans) but in the end call it a compromise or whatever and always do. Pay attention -they have their agenda and that is what goes through
Bonnie Karkowski May 7, 2013 at 02:13 pm
Vote No on May 14. More money is not the answer for improving our school system. What is needed is…Read More respect for, and from, ALL parties involved in the education process. What is needed is more parental involvement at home as well as in the schools, in teaching their children the value of education. Without respect there can be no discipline. With no discipline, children cannot learn even in the best equipped facility. With no desire to learn, children will learn nothing. Parents you must send your children to school with the desire to learn, with the understanding of the value of an education, and, most of all, with respect for their teachers and fellow students.

Absolutely -It takes how much of your time to have a say? How many in Windsor can afford this?…Read More Force accountability -Force them to work within budgets, reasonable budgets just as you have to do. Or will you decide you have no say, it's not worth your time then been one of the ones complaining about taxes and how you cannot afford to fix your home, feed your family, do without more and more in this horrid economy. Vote NO!

Thats the problem. He thinks he only had two choices. Either the state tax payers pay for his trip…Read More or someone else. How about you paying for your little escapade that doesn't seem to benefit anyone else but you and every other politician who seems to be using Newtown as a political opertunity. I would like to see you stop using the tragedy at Newtown for your own personal gain. Then what is really humiliating is you and Peoples Magazine saying it only cost $1,000.00.

~$1000? Huh? Did his security fly and stay for free? Did he fly into Reagan for $600 or BWI for…Read More $59? I'd like to get "in" with his travel agent.
