School Board Receives Watts' Resignation

At the behest of the Windsor Board of Education, Watts submitted his resignation via his attorney.

Board of Education member Christopher Watts, who is , has decided to "immediately resign" from the school board, according to school officials.

The Windsor Board of Education announced Wednesday night that Watts’ attorney informed the board of his decision earlier in the day. The announcement comes two weeks after so members can continue working on behalf of the schools without the distraction of the federal charges filed against Watts.

“All of the Board of Education members are eager to move forward and are continuing our focus to educate the children of Windsor," Chairwoman Doreen Richardson said Wednesday, adding the board is waiting for the Windsor Town Clerk to confirm whether Watts’ resignation, which was received "through communication with his attorney," is sufficient in satisfying the board's resignation request.

According to court documents, Watts intended to engage in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl while on a trip to Florida to buy a truck.

Watts faces a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in federal prison if convicted.
