Mother Alerted to Morning Fire by Smoke Alarm

Windsor Police grabbed a ladder in the garage to save the mother and daughter.

A mother and daughter were saved from their burning home by two Windsor police officers early Tuesday morning.

The blaze started in the Grande Avenue home's living room, according to Windsor Fire Marshal Bob Bolasevich, and spread across the house.

The mother was alerted to fire, which began around 3 a.m., by a fire alarm, waking her up, Bolasevich said.

She then made her way to her daughter's room where the two were trapped by a smoke-filled hallway, Bolasevich added.

It was at that time Windsor police arrived on the scene.

Officers arrived to find smoke billowing out of the home's front windows, and the mother and daughter in an upstairs bedroom at the front of the house, according to Bolasevich.

The officers grabbed a ladder from the garage and rescued both the mother and the daughter from the bedroom.

The home sustained significant damage, Bolasevich said, particularly to the living room, kitchen and dining room areas.

Bolasevich said that the Fire Marshal's office cannot officially determine a cause for the fire, but added that the mother and daughter used the fireplace in the living room Monday night to make s'mores.

No one was harmed in the blaze.

The mother and daughter were both transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
